Who we are

Pastor Roger was born in Nebraska in 1943, and lived most of his life in Anaheim, CA. He married his college sweetheart Cindy, in 1967. They have a daughter, Wendy and a son, Scott., and two grandchildren, Justin and Caleb. After graduating from Anaheim High School, Pastor Roger attended Oregon University for four years. After graduation, he came back to teach and coach at his Alma mater, Anaheim High School.

He gave his life to Christ in 1974 and coached for Jesus for 20 years at Anaheim High School, until God called him full time into the ministry in 1988. He was given the opportunity to go on staff at Calvary Chapel South Bay under Pastor Steve Mays and he served there until God put the desire in his heart to have a ministry where he lived in the city of Anaheim.

Roger then started a bible study in his home under the name Open Door Christian Fellowship. Later with a word from the Lord and the prayer and support of fellow pastors we became Calvary Chapel Open Door. Revelation 3:8. "I know your works, see I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength have kept My word, and have not denied My name". From there the study moved to the lobby of an office building. We moved into our present building in 1994. God is doing great things presently with our building project as we rebuild and remodel here.

In 2012, the Lord called Pastor Roger to Klamath Falls, Oregon to New Horizon Christian Fellowship. The gifts that the Holy Spirit gave to Roger for use at Open Door would now be used to edify, strengthen, and encourage the believers at New Horizon and to provide hope to the lost through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Pastor Don Hoag, who had served faithfully under Pastor Roger as Children Ministry Director, Academy Vice Principal and an Associate Pastor since 1993, became the senior pastor to continue the work that the Holy Spirit had begun through Pastor Roger. Pastor Don and his staff, while continuing with the same vision, are praying to the Lord to give them fresh fire and continued direction.

Please come join us here at Calvary Chapel Open Door we'd love to meet you.

What we believe

We believe that there is one true and living GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:8 and 48:16; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30; Hebrews 1:3).

We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error and the infallible rule of faith and practice. The Word of God is the foundation upon which this church operates and is the basis for which this church is governed. We believe that the Word of God supersedes any earthly law that is contrary to the Holy Scriptures. We believe that the King James Version of the Bible is the most accurate translation from the original ancient text. It is from this translation that we establish our doctrine and Statement of Faith. (Isaiah 28:13; Nehemiah 8:8; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:3-4 and 1:21).

We believe in the person of God the Father, an infinite, eternal, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalms 90:2; Psalms 102:27; John 3:16 and 4:24; 1 Timothy 1:17; Titus 1:3).

We believe in the person of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, his substitution atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth. (Isaiah 7:14; Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:23; Mark 16:19; Luke 1:34-35; John 1:1-2, 8:58 and 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 1:8; 1 John 1:2; Revelation 1:8).

We believe in the person of the Holy Spirit, Who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ; (Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 3:18; John 16:8-11; Romans 8:26 and 15:13,16; Hebrews 9:14).

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide. (John 6:13, 14:16-17 and 16:8-11; Romans 8:26).

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit according to the instructions given to us in 1 Corinthians 12-14. (1 Corinthians 14)

We believe that all people are sinners by nature and, therefore, are under condemnation; that God saves and regenerates based upon faith by the Holy Spirit, those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord. (Acts 8:15-17; Ephesians 2:1-3 and 8-9; Romans 3:23 and 5:8; Titus 3:5).

We believe in the universal church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the head and all who are born again are a part of the Body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 4:15-16)

We believe in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ which is His personal, visible return to earth and the establishment of His millennial kingdom, in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous and endless separation of the wicked. (Matthew 16:27; Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-16, 20:11-15)

We believe in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church where all believers will meet the Lord in the air and be taken out of this world prior to the Tribulation that will come upon the earth. (Isaiah 26:20; Matthew 24:29-31; Luke 21:36; Romans 1:18, 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-16 and 5:9; 2 Peter 2:7-9; Revelation 3:10, 5:7-10 and 7:13-14)

We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell and that all those who place their faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ will spend eternity in Heaven with the Lord, while those who reject Jesus’ free gift of salvation will spend eternity separated from the Lord. (Psalm 9:17; Matthew 5:3, 5:22, 18:9 and 25:31-34; Mark 9:42-49; Luke 12:5; John 3:18; Hebrews 12:23; 1 Peter 1:4; Revelation 14:10-11 and 20:11-15)

What Matters Most

Jesus Loves You!

"God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." This is God's promise to you (John 3:16).

Jesus is the only way to eternal life!

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." God's assurance is that His promise is fulfilled only through Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

A. God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life.

     1. God’s Love

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son,

that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

     2. God’s Plan:

Jesus said, "…I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." John 10:10

Why aren’t we experiencing the abundant life now? Because...

B. All of us have thought, said, and done wrong, which has separated us from God.

     1. We are Sinful

"…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

We have chosen to go our own way instead of God’s way. We have missed the mark that

that God had set for us....the Bible calls this sin.

     2. We are Separated from God

"The wages of sin is death…" [spiritual separation from God]. Romans 6:23

God is holy, we are sinful. All our good deeds fall short of being in right standing with a

                   Holy God.

This explains the only way to bridge this gap...

C. Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin.

Through Him we can know & experience God's love & plan for our life.

     1. He Died in Our Place

"but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Rom 5:8

     2. He Rose From the Dead

"Christ died for our sins...He was buried...He was raised on the third day,

according to the Scriptures...He appeared to Peter, then to the twelve.

After that He appeared to more than five hundred..." 1 Corinthians 15:3-6

     3. He Is the Only Way to God

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

No one comes to the Father, except through Me.'" John 14:6

God has bridged the gap that separates us from Him by sending His Son, Jesus Christ,

to die on the cross in our place to pay the penalty for our sins.

It is not enough just to know these three principles...

D. We must receive Jesus as Savior & Lord to know God's love & plan for us.

     1. We Must Receive Christ

"But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name,

He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12

     2. We Receive Christ through Faith

          "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And that is not your own doing;

it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8,9

     3. We Receive Christ by His Personal Invitation

Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him..." Revelation 3:20

You can receive Christ and everlasting life right now by faith through prayer,

     Just ask Jesus!

  • Manny Irizarry Church Administrator

“If I could tell you my story, it would tell of HIM”, as the song says, it’s all about JESUS! For 38 years I was running from GOD, living a life of sin and finding myself searching for happiness, for answers. Then one Sunday I found myself outside of a church, stoned out of my mind and angry. So, I started throwing rocks at the doors and yelling obscenities at the ushers and the people inside. Then to my surprise, two guys came outside, (later on I found out that they were the ushers) and instead of yelling at me and pushing me away, they came over and put their arms around me and started to talk to me about JESUS and how he was the way to salvation. They prayed for me and I turned and left, still shouting obscenities and still angry. The following Sunday I found my way back to the Church again, drunk and stoned again. Again I started throwing rocks at the doors and yelling obscenities at everyone inside calling them liars and hypocrites. Again, the two guys came outside again to speak with me and they prayed for me. Again, I left angry and empty, wondering why did I go to that church again? The third Sunday I found myself there again, this time I wasn’t so high. I started yelling obscenities again but this time when the ushers came out they invited to come on in and join them. I agreed, went in and I stood in the back along the wall. The preacher was talking about the suffering of Christ, of HIS Crucifixion, and of Grace. I found myself walking forward towards the pulpit and falling to my knees when I heard him say that Christ loved me so much that He died for me. He said that because Christ lives I too could have life and that more abundantly. That day I knew I needed Christ in my life. That was Easter Sunday 1990, 26 years ago. And by the Grace of God I am still seeking Him. I found CCOD in the Fall of 1997, and today I serve as the Academy and Church Administrator and I am so blessed.
